The winter recruitment period is always a time of intense rumour and potential major deals. A number of high-profile players find themselves linked with transfers out of their present teams. We examine some of the top names who could be changing clubs this month.

A. Semenyo

Although Ghana's inability to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has kept the forward in contention, it appears a major transfer is close. The 25-year-old has a contract with a sizeable buy-out clause applicable for a two-week window in early January. Latest reports suggest Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former suitors like Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have moved on to other targets, leaving teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to make a last-minute move.

M. Guéhi

This England centre-back has excel for Crystal Palace despite a previous move to Anfield collapsing. With his contract set to run out in the close season, January is the London club's final chance to secure a fee for their captain. A host of elite sides, such as City and several European giants like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. Yet, a winter exit remains unlikely, especially given the coach's reliance on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh winger has had first-team minutes limited at Spurs this campaign. Despite finishing as the side's top scorer the previous campaign, Johnson has started just a small number of Premier League games. Reports suggest the North London outfit would be willing to consider a sale for the right price, thought to be in the around £40 million. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an inquiry.

Tottenham rate the Welsh international at around forty million pounds.

Rúben Neves

The Portuguese midfielder might be set for a comeback to the Premier League after a period in Saudi Arabia. Still only 28, while his contract expiring in the summer of 2026, he is a potential opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the player. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spain that he is willing to take a pay cut for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

This experienced Germany goalkeeper is now as the third option at Barça under new manager Flick. Having lost his place and had surgery, a winter exit looks increasingly probable. Aston Villa were initially linked as a potential suitor, but that option currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are reportedly showing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

The proven England striker has kept scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. A return to the Premier League could enhance his fading hopes of making the national squad. But, arranging a deal presents significant challenges. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his reported enormous salary render any move difficult. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

C. Gallagher

The dynamic midfielder drew widespread attention in the off-season but remained at Atlético. Having limited starting appearances in La Liga this term, he is keen to secure more playing time ahead of the World Cup. United are strongly linked, and a return to Selhurst Park, a club he shone on loan, remains a option, although wage demands could be a stumbling block.

H. Elliott

Although starring and winning the best player award at the U21 Euros last summer, the talented player has struggled for game time during his loan spell at Villa. Unai Emery has confirmed the loan move will not be made permanent. Due to specific rules about representing multiple teams in a campaign, a return to his parent club prior to next summer seems to be the only available outcome.

Kenan Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkey forward has been in excellent form for Juventus this season. As his existing contract running down, a host of Premier League sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the situation. The Turin club are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a battle to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has drawn comparisons to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. Following impressing at the U19 Euros, he has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. The 19-year-old is heavily tipped to make a big-money move this month. Newcastle United reportedly are leading the chase, but could face strong rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing valued at around £22 million.
